Why Plumbium?

Many people have asked me why I chose 'Plumbium' for my site name.

In fact, it's usually the first question they ask after I've given them my email address.
So, would you like the long answer or the short answer?

The Long Answer

  1. I wanted a domain name that was easy to remember.
  2. If you've looked at my CV, you'll know that I started my working life as a Meterials Scientist. I wanted a domain name that reflected that.
  3. From being a Metallurgist, I moved into computers. I therefore wanted my domain name to incorporate that as well.
  4. I wanted the name to imply something 'solid' and 'reliable'.
  5. I like the ambiguities of the English language that allows for confusion between words like 'led' 'lead' (the metal) and 'lead' (the thing usually attached to a dog's collar).
  6. As a Roman Catholic, the Latin connection was a bonus!

Hence Plumbium. Latin for Lead, a metal that used to be extensively used in solder. Solder is used in the manufacture of PCBs, commonly found in computers. Add to which, the English spelling of 'Lead' has two distinct meanings, as does the spoken English word.

Obvious really, I can't think why you needed to ask!
